My name is Angela Ciraolo, RN, BSN and I am a Nurse Coordinator at Western New York BloodCare. https://wnybloodcare.org/about/our-team/ I became a nurse because I always had a desire to care for others. It seemed like pursuing a career in nursing was the natural next step for me. I am continually challenged at WNY BloodCare and impressed by our dedicated clinical care team.
In caring for patients and families with bleeding disorders, I became inspired by Save One Life’s vision to help make a direct difference in the lives of people with bleeding disorders in developing countries.
Save One Life supports leadership training, women and girls’ initiatives as well as programs to provide blood-clotting factor to those in areas with limited access. In addition, grant funding provides financial assistance for micro-enterprises that help individuals in other countries become self-sufficient. Since 2014, Save One Life has invested over $60,000 to help over 80 individuals and families run roadside juice stands all the way to providing taxi services. They have supported the purchase of sewing machines for tailoring and dressmaking businesses, inventory for grocery, electronic, fabric, clothing, cosmetic and mobile repair shops, equipment for small restaurants and bakeries, and animals for dairy and meat production.
In October 2020, I will be participating in Save One Life’s Grand Canyon Challenge on a trip below the rim to help bring awareness to their cause.
This adventure is designed for people of all physical abilities with many different options of hikes available. Participants will hike the Bright Angel Trail (9 or 12 mile r/t hike options) on Day One, and on Day Two we will hike the South Kaibab Trail (3, 6 or 9 mile r/t hike options). Save One Life is utilizing the experience and expertise of their partner, iConquer, to help everyone interested in participating find their route to success. iConquer will guide participants through a ten-week training program that will help them prepare for the hike that fits their skill level. If people want to be a guest/visitor and not hike, they can do that too!
I have been to the Grand Canyon twice but have not hiked it to the extent that I plan to for this adventure. My plan is to hike the longer routes on both days which will cover just over 20 miles in total. Participants are expected to raise $3,000 to partake in this adventure. To date, I have raised 92% of my goal! Donations above my goal go directly to support Save One Life’s mission. If you’d like to help me reach or exceed my goal, you can visit my page and make a donation at: https://secure.qgiv.com/event/account/906599/
